The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) coordinates the development and use of voluntary consensus standards in a given industry. After much debate the standards for the tree care industry, ANSI A300, was approved June 28, 1991. Representatives from the residential and commercial tree care industries, along with the forestry, utility, municipal, and federal sectors all weighed in on the issues. The result is a comprehensive guideline in eleven parts that addresses all phases of tree care from planting to pruning, restoration to removal, lightning protection to personnel protection. All serious arboricultural professionals apply the standards to their fields of expertise.
